A New Beginning

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

The start of a race is crucial for a sprinter. If they leave the blocks too soon they are immediately eliminated from the event. If they linger in the blocks they become immediately disadvantaged, as they are left playing catch up with the other runners. They will not be given another chance.

Thankfully, in God, we are given opportunity time and time again to make a fresh start. God is the God of the new beginning. The Message translation puts it brilliantly when it describes that ultimate new beginning of entering into Jesus in 2 Cor 5:17. It says, “The old life is gone; a new life burgeons!”. This word, burgeon, means to grow or develop quickly, or to flourish. The new start that God gives us is not given to us half heartedly or begrudgingly. It is given to us in full measure; not in order for us to prove that we deserved it, but rather that we might embrace it and flourish. Such is the goodness of God.

So, if you find yourself in the place where you feel that you should be eliminated from the race because of some error, misjudgement, or even sin that you’ve committed; don’t lose heart. Or, maybe you‘ve lingered in the blocks; you’ve let life pass you by and you feel it’s too late; don’t give up hope. God’s desire for you still remains the same. He desires that you would grow, develop quickly, and flourish! Ask Him today for a fresh start; another chance. Believe that it is yours because of Jesus and embrace the new beginning he presents to you.

Think:

Am I flourishing in life? Or, am I just getting carried along in life, believing that I’ve missed my chance, or believing that I’ve done something that has ruled me out of living in God’s best?

Pray:

Thank you Lord Jesus for your Grace. Thank you that you are the God of new beginnings. Help me to embrace fullness of life once again and may my flourishing be a witness and testimony of who You are.
