For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery
Did you ever ask a stupid question? In those moments the obvious answer just hasn’t registered with you.
In this verse the writer, Paul, is talking about religious practices that create bondage to laws of religion. What Paul says here seems so simple but I think he needs to make a clear point to those with whom the obvious answer has just not registered yet.
Why did Christ set us free? Was it so that we would still maintain any religious practice at all that makes us feel duress or even oppression? No! He set us free for Freedom! [Sound of William Wallace (Braveheart) shouting]. Why don’t you try giving a big shout of Freedom even right now!
You are free! In your spirit you are free! Free from the law, free from sin, free from religion, free from oppression, free from guilt, free from shame, you are FREE!
Today you should know that fullness of freedom that Jesus gives. You are free to worship Him always in your heart. You are free to talk to Him and listen to Him. You are free to completely be yourself before Him and to be as honest as the day is long in His presence! “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36 ESV).
As a wedding day approaches for a couple there is something that is often said by way of jest; “oh you’re losing your freedom now!”. Obviously, it is only lighthearted humour intended for fun. However, marriage should not be viewed as a case of losing freedom. In fact, the opposite should be true; freedom is gained by entering into the right marriage. The reason for this is that the The things that are right for us in God create freedom and the feeling of freedom comes with it. The Bible likens Jesus to a groom with the church as His bride. We find true freedom when we become a part of His church and enter into covenant with Him. All that He is and all that He ordains for you is freedom and life.
Have I allowed things into my life that are producing feelings of oppression and continual hardship. Is it time for some of these things to go?
Thank you Lord Jesus that you came to bring us freedom. Help me today to walk in the fullness of the freedom that you give.
