In One Ear, And Not Out The Other

Ezekiel 3:10

…all my words that I shall speak to you receive in your heart, and hear with your ears

There’s an old fashioned phrase that I used to hear used in prayer during church meetings, and it’s really cool; ‘Let Your word find a lodging place within our hearts’.

This phrase expresses a desire that God’s word would not just go in one ear and out the other! And, let’s be honest; that can happen so easily! How many times have you heard from God and even felt the excitement of that in the moment? But, then comes other moments and the busyness of life, and before you know it, the God moment from earlier has faded and even disappeared.

What if you could change that? What if you were to let that word from God find its way into your heart (your innermost being) and let it lodge there. You could then begin to build your life upon it. Imagine how different life would become?

So, today, why not take a little moment to still you heart in His presence. Ask Him to speak to you. Meditate upon what He says. Pray about what He says. Even share it with a close friend. Build your day upon it and around it. That way, God’s word is lodging in your heart and it is performing its role, as the solid building block that you need, for a strong stable life in Him.

Think:

What is God saying to me today? Am I giving Him my ear to listen? Am I opening up my heart to let His word lodge there? Am I building my life upon it?

Pray:

Thank you, Father, that you love to speak to your children. Speak to me today. Lord, I’m listening. Let your word lodge within my heart and help me build my life upon it.
