Joseph Rises To Prominence
46 Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh and went through all the land of Egypt. 47 During the seven plentiful years the earth produced abundantly, 48 and he gathered up all the food of these seven years, which occurred in the land of Egypt, and put the food in the cities. He put in every city the food from the fields around it. 49 And Joseph stored up grain in great abundance, like the sand of the sea, until he ceased to measure it, for it could not be measured.
50 Before the year of famine came, two sons were born to Joseph. Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On, bore them to him. 51 Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh. “For,” he said, “God has made me forget all my hardship and all my father's house.” 52 The name of the second he called Ephraim, “For God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.”
In Genesis 41 we read that Pharaoh has had troublesome dreams. When no one is able to interpret them, the cupbearer remembers Joseph. Now things begin to happen for Joseph. He is brought before Pharaoh, and his wisdom and advice are so impressive that suddenly he finds himself put in to position as ruler over the nation!
It might seem that things are moving slowly in your life in a particular season but there are suddenly moments in God that bring about great change in a short time. Be patient and keep trusting because your time is coming.
When Joseph's sons are born he gives them names with significant meaning. Their names have meanings of forgetfulness and fruitfulness. In order to move on in God we need to forget all that has caused us offence and hardship. Don't dwell on those things. Leave them with Him. Fruitfulness is possible, even from the place of affliction.
Are there hurts and offences that I hold on to? Can I let them go by faith in God. Can I take that faith one step further to continue to believe for a season of God glorifying fruitfulness in my life?
Thank you Lord that I have the ability to bless other people for your glory. Please, show me the opportunities that lie before me today to do this.
