He found him in a desert land, and in the howling waste of the wilderness; he encircled him, he cared for him, he kept him as the apple of his eye.
Do you ever feel unloved? Do you ever feel uncared for? Sometimes a moment of feeling sorry for yourself can bring on such feelings. Other times, it’s more serious and more real than just feeling sorry for yourself. Either way, it’s important to be reminded of your value in God’s sight. You are the apple of His eye.
This verse today comes from a passage of the Bible that describes how God cared for His people while they followed Him as their God. There is tender language used here as His people are described as ’the apple of his eye’. It’s a phrase that’s used in other parts of the Bible too, and seems to carry connotation of something that is held with the highest value and care. In Zechariah 2:8, God uses this phrase, again, when speaking of his people; ‘he who touches you touches the apple of my eye’. In Proverbs 7:2, the writer instructs his Son with these words; ‘keep my commandments and live; keep my teaching as the apple of your eye’
You are held in a place of highest value and care by the Lord. He views you with tenderness and you are precious to Him. Press in to Him today. David pressed in to Him at a time when he was aware of pressure and enmity around him. He prayed this in Psalm 17:8, ‘keep me as the apple of your eye’. Maybe you could echo that prayer today and believe that it is God’s delight to cause it to be so. You are the apple of His eye.
Do I realise just how precious I am to Him? Do I value myself in the same way that He values me?
Thank you Father that I am held by you in the place of highest value. Help me to believe it today and to walk in the knowledge of it. Help me to value myself as you do. Thank you that I am the apple of your eye.
